Don’t get addicted to being busy.

  1. Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 10.58.08 AMWe can easily fall into an illusion of success when we become busy. Unfortunately being busy is not a sign of success. On the contrary if we are too busy, it could be an indication that we are not successful. Success is about order, not chaos.

What will determine our success? Firstly if we are asking this question, we are still searching for success and if we are busy, it can be said that we have not achieved the level of success we set out to achieve. Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Therefore, if we don’t think we are insane, then what are we doing differently to achieve success? Obviously what we have done thus far is not producing the desired results.

The answer is to simplify: What can we do today that will produce results tomorrow, next week, next month and in the future years? If we are doing something that we know will not produce results – like watching TV for example, we must ask ourselves why are we doing them and if we can eliminate these things, can we reduce the amount of time we spend doing these things so that we can spend time on things that will produce results in the future?

The simple time wasters like TV are obvious, but can you look at your work and find similar things that waste your time? Can you speak to your boss and motivate why they waste time and suggest something more productive? The more productive your workplace can become the more profit they will make, if you have contributed to the profit by utilising your time more effectively, they will see you as more valuable.

It’s only when we start to think of these things, that we can change our lives and then we will start to become more productive – I urge you to give it a try, your future self will thank you for these actions causing you to be successful. Don’t waste time, now is all you have!
