#Travel Itinerary Part 6 – Things to Do

We travel to learn new things, and in doing so we learn a lot about ourselves and our travelling companions. The question is often what can we do when we arrive at our destination, or when we are there what else is in the area? This article will help you find things to do and hopefully stretch your imagination to new possibilities, making your travel an even bigger adventure.

Search – Things to Do

The easiest is to do a search where you type in: Things to do in and around (your destination). This will produce hours of reading and allow you to research everything from the Top 10 things of everything you can imagine or at least everything popular and yet at the same time, they will try to trap you into tours and excursions, taking you to all the obvious places and the places that have advertised the most.

I will concentrate on how you can find new things and the not so obvious, or even the obvious with a few tips to save you time and money.

City Sightseeing Bus

I have found that the Hop On – Hop Off buses are a good way to get a quick overview of a new destination. They take you past places that you may have missed if you were simply doing an online search. You may see interesting shops, attractions and people that you may have missed before. Importantly you should get off, or as they say Hop-Off and go discover things. Then at any time you can simply Hop-On again, continue the tour and find the next opportunity to adventure and even more chances to explore.

Walk and Discover

Wandering around is always the best way to discover things, visit the shops around wherever you are staying, buy a coffee from one shop and then look for a bakery and get something there, visit the local butcher and see what people are selling on the streets. You will be amazed at what you discover when you slow down and simply take time to find different things. Besides, walking is a great way to keep yourself in shape during your holiday.

Finding the Weird

There are weird and bizarre things everywhere in the world, finding them is sometimes the greatest adventure of all, as you will have experiences that very few others will have. To help you find the world’s hidden wonders visit www.atlasobscura.com

City life can get rather hectic at times, visiting a zoo is a great way to escape and you will get to walk quite a bit. It is always a great reminder of just how important our environment is and the delicate eco-system that exists around us. You may also discover new animals you have never seen before.

Shopping and the Outlet Malls

Many people love to shop, and discovering small shops is great if you have time. Many of us won’t dedicate days to simply shopping as we will want to see the local countryside and the attractions. However, if you are looking for the shopping malls you will need to search carefully as many shopping malls listed on Google Maps are just big department stores. You normally need to search outside the central part of any city to find a true shopping mall.

The trend in shopping tourism is Outlet Malls where they try to attract tourists to shop designer brands at discount prices. Besides the convenience of all the brands in one place, the discounts offered are not usually a big saving and it is often a glorified sale offering last year’s merchandise at a discounted price, just like any sale does. It is possible to pick up a few bargains, but that is normally in the offseason when they don’t have plenty of shoppers and they are simply trying to cover overheads. You can definitely find bargains if you know what the normal prices are, but if you are looking for a specific item and are hoping to get it cheaper, rather just see if you can negotiate on the high street.

Second Hand and Used Shops

Museums are a great reminder of how things used to be, but why not bring history a little closer by visiting second-hand clothing and other shops that sell used items. If you are seriously looking for a bargain, these are the places to find clothing and virtually every other item imaginable in great condition.

There are so many things to do, so much to be discovered. I wish you all the best finding the most exciting places, so that your experience may be a story your friends wished they could have been part of.
